SUBJECT:
ECLIPSE CD PLAYER NOISE
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES ATIN-89-08-001 PUBLISHED MARCH 10, 1989.
PURPOSE
This bulletin describes a slight noise heard from the sound system on some Eclipse vehicles, and the steps to take to correct it.
DESCRIPTION
The CD player equipped sound systems in a few early production Eclipses may exhibit a very slight hiss or "sizzle" noise from the speakers when the CD
player is being used. This can usually be heard only when the vehicle is stopped, the volume is turned up, and you are between musical passages. Very
few customers will notice this condition. The noise is a phenomenon of the volume control circuit and due to the dynamic range and listening levels
associated with digital playback devices.
Mitsubishi Electric has made an improvement to the volume control circuit and placed the improvement in production in March of 1989. Eclipses built
after that date should not exhibit the hiss or sizzle noise to any objectionable degree.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
For vehicles built before March 1989 that display this condition, the radio, amplifier and CD player should all be removed and sent to one of the two
repair stations listed below. These repair stations will either modify your units or send units already modified back to you as outlined in the Warranty
Policy & Procedure Manual appendix 'A'. Follow standard radio warranty exchange procedures as outlined in the Warranty Policy & Procedure manual.
NOTE:
These units are repairable. Under no circumstances should the dealer replace these units with new components from dealer stock.
Send your Eclipse radio, amplifier, and CD player to one of these repair facilities only:
