SUBJECT:
F4AC1 A/T DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, before the engine reaches normal operating temperature, the transaxle may go into 2nd gear limp-in" mode. This condition
may cause the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) to set in the Transmission Control Module due to worn or damaged accumulator seals:
^
DTC 52 - Speed ratio default in 2nd and/or
^
DTC 54 - Speed ratio default in 4th
^
DTC 36 - Speed error immediately after a shift
In most cases, normal A/T operation will return after the engine is restarted. After these DTCs have been set, the 2nd gear "limp-in" condition may or
may not be duplicated.
If DTCs 36, 52 and/or 54 have been set, follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to replace the underdrive clutch accumulator with a new aluminum
accumulator and replace the accumulator seal rings with new teflon seal rings.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1995-96 Eclipse models equipped with F4AC1 automatic transaxle identification codes from XXX-2088-XXX to XXX-2404-XXX. The transaxle
identification code is located on the transaxle case as shown.
