RKE INTERMITTENT OPERATION
PURPOSE
On some affected vehicles, the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system may operate only intermittently to lock and unlock the doors. This condition may be
due to a software programming error in the ETACS ECU. The new ETACS ECU listed in this bulletin has been reprogrammed to correct intermittent
RKE operation.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2000 Eclipse models equipped with rear windshield wiper, produced before 9/13/99 (VIN YE036566)
Dealers must perform this bulletin procedure to all affected vehicles in their stock.
PROCEDURE
1.
Check the ETACS ECU part number. The ETACS ECU it located under the driver side instrument panel and has a light blue case.
a.
If the part number is MR329190, go to Step 2.
b.
It the part number is MR490283, check the vendor number listed under the part number.

If the vendor number is TN151300-6521, go to Step 2.

If the vendor number is TN151300-6522, the ETACS ECU already has the new software. Do not continue with this procedure. Refer to
page 54B-53 in the 2000 Eclipse service manual for troubleshooting instructions.
2.
Replace the ETACS ECU, using the new, improved part listed in the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin. Refer to page 54A-26 in
the 2000 Eclipse service manual. Be sure the retaining clips are secure.
Then re-register the RKE transmitter codes. Refer to page 42-74 in the 2000 Eclipse service manual for transmitter registration instructions.
3.
Verify that the RKE transmitter operates to look and unlock the doors properly. If it does not, verify proper installation of the ETACS ECU.
a.
If the ETACS ECU installation is correct but the RKE system does not operate properly, refer to page 54B-53 in the 2000 Eclipse service
manual for troubleshooting instructions.
