SUBJECT:
HVAC CONTROLLER REPLACEMENT - SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
The HVAC (heater) controller may intermittently send incorrect signals to the HVAC mode door until the various input data to the controller stabilize.
These incorrect signals may cause the heater case mode door to infrequently move to unselected settings when the heater is operated. Additionally over
time this excessive door movement may damage the mode door shaft and cause the door to stick at one setting location. These conditions could affect
defroster performance resulting in delayed clearing of the windshield.
Dealers are instructed to replace the HVAC (heater) controller assembly with a new improved part programmed with updated software. Dealers should
also inspect the mode door shaft. If the mode door shaft is cracked repair it as described in this bulletin procedure.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2006-2008 Endeavors built between 5/16/2006 and 1/28/2008 equipped with manual air conditioning.
IMPORTANT
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
A letter will be sent to all owners of affected vehicles telling them to bring their vehicle to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer for HVAC controller
replacement. Owners in Canada and cold weather states will receive this notification the 2nd week of December 2010. Owners in other areas will receive
this notification at a later date. Dealers are instructed to perform this repair for any owner of an affected vehicle who requests the repair (if the campaign
has not yet been completed) regardless of whether they received a notification letter.
A copy of the customer notification letter is shown in this bulletin.
REQUIRED OPERATIONS
1. Before starting this procedure CHECK ON THE WARRANTY SUPERSCREEN to verify that the vehicle is an affected VIN for this campaign and
that this campaign procedure has not already been completed.
2. Disconnect the vehicle battery.
