Valve Clearance: Adjustments

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Remove valve cover assembly as outlined under COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/CYLINDER HEAD.

3.

Position No. 1 cylinder at top dead center on the compression stroke.

4.

Adjust valve clearance at point shown in Fig. 12, as follows:

a. Loosen adjusting screw locknut.
b. Using feeler gauge, adjust valve clearance to .0035 inch for intake or .0079 inch for exhaust, by turning the adjusting screw.
c. While holding adjusting screw, tighten adjusting screw locknut.

5.

Rotate engine crankshaft clockwise one complete turn to bottom dead center.

6.

Repeat step 4 for points shown in Fig. 13.

7.

Install valve cover.
