Timing Cover: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
Fig. 14 Silent Shaft, Oil Pump & Front Case Components
Note:Refer to Fig. 14, when removing silent shaft, oil pump and front case. Keep silent shaft in position by inserting a screwdriver through plug hole in
left side of cylinder block and remove oil pump driven gear securing bolt.
1. Drain engine oil.
2. Remove oil filter and oil pressure switch,
3. Remove oil pan, oil screen.
4. Remove oil filter bracket, relief plug, relief spring, relief plunger, O ring, plug cap and driven gear bolt.
5. Remove front case.
6. Remove oil seals.
7. Remove Oil pump cover and driven gears.
8. Remove left and right silent shafts.
9. Remove front bearing.
10. Remove left rear and right rear bearings.
INSPECTION
1.
Check gear contacting surface of front case and oil pump cover for step wear. If wear is evident, replace front case.
2.
Check silent shaft journals for wear and damage. If excessive damage or wear is evident, check bearing. If necessary, replace silent shaft and/or
bearing.
