Canister Purge Solenoid: Description and Operation
Purge Control Solenoid
The Purge Control Solenoid Valve is part of the Evaporative Emissions system and is controlled by the ECU in response to the signals it receives from
the Intake Air Temperature Sensor and the Coolant Temperature Sensor. When engine coolant temperature is low, or during idling, the purge control
solenoid valve remains closed preventing fuel vapors from entering the intake manifold and reducing HC emissions. After engine warm-up, during
ordinary driving the ECU opens the Purge Control Solenoid Valve to purge fuel vapors from the fuel system into the intake manifold.
For further information on the operation of this system, refer to Emission Controls.
