Infrared light from the LEDs is received directly and by reflection by the photodiode in the steering column jacket. Two LEDs are mounted 180~ apart in
the steering wheel hub so that the single receiving photodiode always receives a light signal regardless of steering wheel position. Figure 4 shows
infrared light rays striking the photodiode directly and by reflection. Figure 5 shows how the light from two LEDs covers the entire circle.

SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY
The radio and remote-control unit in the steering wheel are repairable. Repair/exchange procedures are described in your Warranty Policy and Procedure
Manual. The LED Assembly and Amplifier are serviced only as replacement parts by MMSA dealers and service centers. Figure 6 shows the
arrangement graphically.

TROUBLESHOOTING
The troubleshooting chart on page 4 lists the most probable malfunctions, their causes, and suggested corrective actions. For most efficient
troubleshooting, perform corrective actions in top-to-bottom order as listed by the arrows in the chart.
Remember:
the radio receiver and remote-control switch assembly can be repaired by MESA. The LED assembly and amplifier assembly are not
repairable and must be replaced.
