TIMING BELT SERVICE CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
This bulletin provides instructions for the replacement of the timing belt on certain 1992 2.0L DOHC Galant and Eclipse vehicles. All affected vehicle
owners will be notified by a letter requesting them to return their vehicle to a Mitsubishi Motors dealer for timing belt replacement. A sample owner
notification letter appears in this bulletin.
Owners will not receive a letter regarding this campaign if warranty records indicate that their vehicle has had a repair which included timing belt
replacement using either timing belt part number MD171748 or MD182291.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This Service Campaign bulletin applies only to certain: 1992 Galant and 1992 & early production 1993 Eclipse models equipped with 2.0L 4G63 DOHC
engines produced between 11/91 and 6/92 (engine serial number range MK0001 - NF2125).
It does not apply to any other models or to vehicles which have previously had the timing belt replaced under warranty using timing belt part number
MD171748 or MD182291.
SUPPLEMENTAL DEALER INFORMATION
At the beginning of this campaign launch, all affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be loaded into the MMSA Diamond Network system.
Dealers may perform this campaign before the customer receives their letter if verification of vehicle involvement is made.
If the customer has not yet received a notification letter and a dealer suspects that the vehicle is involved in this campaign, check the VIN in the Diamond
Network Warranty System to verify that the vehicle is actually involved. Inform the customer that their vehicle is affected by this campaign and receive
the customer's permission to perform the repair before performing the campaign. Upon completion, inform the customer that if he receives a notification
letter, the campaign has already been performed and no further action is necessary.
REQUIRED OPERATION
Remove and replace the timing belt. Follow the instructions starting on page 110-39 of the 1992-96 Engine Overhaul manual.
