Press old valve guide from cylinder head toward lower surface using a suitable pushrod and press.

Ream each valve guide bore in cylinder head to the O.D. of replacement valve guide, Fig. 18. Never use a valve guide of the same size as the
removed guide.

On all except 1.6L/4-97.4 engines, press fit new valve guide into top of cylinder head until a protrusion of .579-.602 inch (14.7-15.3mm) is
obtained.

On 1.6L/4-97.4 engines, press fit new valve guide until a protrusion of .768 inch (19.5mm) is obtained.
5.
On all models, note that valve guides for intake and exhaust are of different lengths. Intake guides are 1.791 inches (45.5mm) long, exhaust guides
are 1.988 inches (50.5mm) long.
6.
After installation of new valve guides, insert valve and ensure it slides freely, then check for proper clearance. If clearance is not correct, ream
valve guide until proper clearance is obtained.
