Crankshaft Main Bearing: Service and Repair

When servicing crankshaft bearings refer to Fig. 24.
1. Install bearing with oil groove on cylinder block side.
2. Install bearing with no oil groove on bearing cap side.
3. Install thrust bearing to No. 3 bearing (groove facing outside).
4. Install bearing caps so their arrows are positioned toward timing belt side.
5. Measure each bearing cap bolt and ensure bolt is less than 2.79 inches long.
6. Tighten bearing cap bolts to specification.
7. Ensure crankshaft turns freely and endplay is 0.0020-0.0098 inch.
8. Replace rear main oil seal as outlined under Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal.
