1984 and 1985 Monteros with automatic transmissions are equipped with a steel shield on the underside of the vehicle which overlaps the vehicle frame
at one of the points where a hoist pad must be positioned when the vehicle is lifted on a two-post hoist. Unless it is removed before attempting to hoist
the vehicle, the shield will prevent locating the hoist pad properly for hoisting and, in addition, the shield will be trapped between the hoist pad and
vehicle frame and will prohibit access to drive train components.
Therefore, ALWAYS REMOVE THE SHIELD BEFORE PUTTING THE VEHICLE ON A HOIST.
