d. Secure axle shaft assembly then, using suitable grinder, shave off a point of the bearing retainer until thickness is about 0.08 inch, Fig. 5. Use
care not to damage bearing case or axle shaft.
e. Using a suitable chisel, cut retainer ring and remove retainer.

7. Install rear axle bearing case removal tool, No. MB990787 or equivalent, as shown, Fig. 6. Install nuts and washers diagonally.
8. Remove wheel bearing by turning nuts evenly.
9. Using hammer and drift punch, remove bearing outer race from bearing case.
10. Remove oil seal from bearing case.
11. Check all components for wear or damage and check axle shaft for runout.
