FRONT BRAKE TUBE SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN
PURPOSE
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. is voluntarily recalling certain 1997-98 Montero Sport vehicles for inspection and, if necessary, repair of a
condition relating to the front brake tubes. If this condition is present and is not corrected, the vehicle may experience deteriorated braking performance.
BACKGROUND
This campaign concerns the brake tubes which supply fluid to the front brakes. These brake tubes may develop a pin hole as a result of rubbing on the
edge of the pass-through hole in the inner fender. The brake tubes should pass through the hole in the center of the grommet with no less than 6 mm
clearance at any point between the tube and grommet. If there is less clearance, contact can possibly occur between the tube and the inner fender causing
tube damage and possible loss of brakes.
In this campaign, the brake tubes on both sides of the vehicle must be inspected to make sure they are in the proper position. If either or both have too
little clearance, the tubes must then be inspected for damage. If there is no damage, the tubes should be carefully repositioned so they are centered in the
grommet. If a tube is damaged, it must be replaced, making sure it is properly positioned during installation.
