SUBJECT:
SPEED ADJUSTMENT SCREW (SAS) ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES
PURPOSE
This bulletin contains Scan Tool (MUT-II) SAS adjustment procedures for early production vehicles.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Symptom
SAS adjustment (and associated ignition timing check) is not possible with the MUT-II.
Cause
The engine control module (ECM) software does not contain the actuator test mode (SAS Mode 30).
Remedy
The MUT-II ROM Pack program has been modified so the MUT-II can identify the early-style ECM and make the necessary SAS adjustment and
ignition timing check using a separate menu.
Note:
The new modified ROM Pack is available as of mid-February 1997
CAUTION
DO NOT replace the ECM on the affected units. Proceed with the adjustment procedures.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997 Montero Sport equipped with the V-6 (6G72) engine, produced before 12/9/96 (VIN: before -VP009155)
Note:
Vehicles produced after December 9, 1996 have ECMs with software which includes the actuator test mode. These vehicles are not affected by this
bulletin.
