SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HARSH 1-2 SHIFT
PURPOSE
This bulletin has information for correcting a harsh shining condition which may occur on 1997 model year Montero Sport vehicles equipped with
automatic transmission.
SYMPTOM
The harsh shift condition usually happens under moderate to heavy acceleration when the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear.
REMEDY
To correct this condition, replace the B2 accumulator inner (upper) spring in the valve body with a new one.
Vehicles produced after October 7, 1996 have this new spring and require no repair.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
1997 Montero Sport equipped with automatic transmission produced before 10/7/96 (Before VIN: JA4MT31P0VP000823)
PROCEDURE
1. Following procedures in the Montero Sport Service Manual, Volume 1, section 23B, remove the automatic transmission valve body.
2. Remove the old B2 accumulator inner spring with the white colored i.d. mark and replace it with a new spring which has the light green color.
CAUTION:
DO NOT replace the B2 accumulator outer spring.
3. Place all the accumulator springs into the valve body then slowly set the valve body back into the transmission. Refer to section 23B in the
