While running the engine at idle disconnect the vacuum hose (white stripe on the two nipples side of the HAC) and hold a finger over the hose end
to verify vacuum is present, Fig. 153.

Testing at Elevations Above 1,200 M (3,900 FT.)

Warm up the engine until coolant temperature exceeds 85 degrees C (185 degrees F).

2.

Connect a timing light to the engine and remove the air cleaner.

3.

Disconnect the vacuum hose (black) from the carburetor primary emulsion well bleed nipple, Fig. 162.

Connect a hand vacuum pump to the disconnected vacuum hose, Fig. 161.

5.

Apply vacuum while the engine idles and verify that vacuum leaks.

6.

Connect the disconnected vacuum hose to its original position.

7.

Verify that the idle ignition timing is 13 degrees BTDC for the 2.0 L engine or 12 degrees BTDC for the 2.6 L engine.
