TRUCK REAR AXLE BEARING REPLACEMENT SERVICE MANUAL REVISION
PURPOSE
The rear axle shafts of 1990-96 pickup trucks are retained by pressed on retainers instead of nuts as in previous designs. This change affects the "Rear
Axle Shaft Removal" procedure in the Truck Service Manuals. The axle shaft removal step and associated Special Tool are replaced by the procedure
and special tool described in this bulletin. All other steps remain unchanged.
The bearing retainer is destroyed in the removal process. A new one will be required even if no other parts are replaced. If a new axle shaft is required,
the replacement shaft for 1990 and newer trucks is sold as a kit.
Write the TSB revision number of this bulletin in the "TSB Revision" box at the bottom of the affected service manual page.

SERVICE MANUAL REVISION
Replace the step "Removal of Rear Axle Shaft" and its associated special tool with the step and special tools described.
