PURPOSE
This bulletin presents three rules to follow when removing and installing the crankcase drain plug:
1.
Use a new gasket every time;
2.
Install the gasket only in the proper direction;
3.
Torque the drain plug properly.
1.
USE A NEW GASKET
You must use a new gasket MD050317 each time the drain plug is tightened because the old gasket is crushed when tightened and cannot seal properly
when re-used.

2.
INSTALL THE GASKET ONLY IN THE PROPER DIRECTION
The drain plug gasket is designed to work properly in one direction only. Figure 1 shows a cross-section of the gasket. You can see how it must be
installed to seal effectively.
3.
TORQUE THE DRAIN PLUG PROPERLY
Torque the drain plug with a torque wrench to 25-33 ft.lbs. Any less than this, and the drain plug may not be tight enough to seal, and oil may leak or the
drain plug may come out. Any more than this may distort the gasket so that it cannot seal as it was designed to.
