1987 FEDERAL (EPA) 2.4L VAN/WAGON EMISSION RECALL
PURPOSE
This bulletin provides detailed procedures for repairing the evaporative emission control system on certain 1987 Federal 2.4L Van/Wagon models. A
letter has been sent to all owners of the affected vehicles telling them to return their vehicles to their Mitsubishi Motors dealer to have the fuel vapor
recovery canister replaced. A copy of this letter is shown in this bulletin.
Please note that the customer is not to be charged for repairs covered by this bulletin. To achieve the desired results, these procedures MUST be
followed EXACTLY as described in this bulletin.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
All dealerships MUST perform all steps as described in this bulletin. Incomplete repairs will lead to emissions non-compliance and obvious customer
dissatisfaction. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will survey the results of this campaign several month after starting. If incomplete repairs
or non-compliance is found, another recall could be ordered or other action could be undertaken by EPA.
Furthermore, the EPA may consider failure to properly perform emission recall procedures as tampering, which may subject the servicing dealer to a fine
of up to $10,000 per vehicle. Confirm that you are using the proper Emission Recall Bulletin, repair procedures, and part for the vehicle model year upon
which you are working on. Service procedures and kits are different even though vehicles look alike.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
This procedure applies to 1987 2.4L 50 State Emission Specification Van/Wagon models registered in all states EXCEPT California, without limitation
as to mileage. It does not apply to vehicles registered in the State of California nor to any other models.
REQUIRED OPERATION
Replace the fuel vapor recovery canister.

REQUIRED ON EACH CLAIM. NO OTHER PARTS ARE ALLOWED TO BE CLAIMED.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Submit as Recall Claim type "C", Menu option "E-5" on your Diamond Network System. Do NOT submit as "W" claims!

Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to the 1987 Van/Wagon Service Manual for proper lift points and lifting instructions which begin on Page 15.
