Timing Chain: Service and Repair
Removal

1.

Place wheel chocks at both front and back of rear wheels.

2.

Place safety stands under designated front supporting points.  Remove right front wheel.

3.

Remove dust cover and engine under cover.

4.

Drain engine oil.

5.

Set No. 1 piston at TDC on its compression stroke.

6.

Remove the alternator and compressor drive belts.

7.

Remove alternator and adjusting bar, Oil Separator, Power Steering pump pulley, pump stay, and bracket, crankshaft pulley, Fig. 2.

8.

Remove oil pan as outlined under Oil Pan. See: Engine Lubrication/Oil Pan/Service and Repair

9.

Remove oil strainer securing bolt and front cover securing bolts.

10.

Remove rocker cover.

11.

Support engine with hoist or chain block.

12.

Remove right side engine mounting bracket and lower the engine.

13.

Remove the front cover.

14.

Remove the chain tensioner, chain guides, timing chain and sprockets.

15.

Check for cracks and excessive wear at roller links.  Replace if necessary.
