2. Auxiliary Spring Compression
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
2. Remove leaf spring rear retention plate bolt.
3. Remove leaf spring retention bolt only enough to rotate plate clear of rod.
4. Install rear auxiliary spring compressor tool No. J-37956, or equivalent. Ensure pin in stationary end of clamp is inserted in hole of upper auxiliary
spring bracket, Fig. 1 and 2 .
5. Remove plug from upper bracket, then seat rod in tool channel and hand tighten.
6. Remove rod to knuckle bolt, then loosen tool forcing screw to allow spring to expand.
7. Remove auxiliary spring attaching bolts, then the spring and tool. When removing auxiliary spring, ensure rod/bushing clears transverse
spring and boss on knuckle.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Compress auxiliary spring with spring compressor tool enough to install rod to knuckle bolt.
b. Install rod to knuckle bolt, using Loctite or equivalent. Tighten to specifications.
c. Properly position leaf spring retention plate, install bolt and tighten to specifications.
