SUBJECT:

HOOD WILL NOT OPEN DUE TO MISSING PULL ROD

MODELS:

Early production 405 vehicles up to approximate VIN 501984

COMPLAINT:

Unable to release the hood from the outside safety catch. On early production 405 vehicles, the plastic pin holding the pull rod (1) onto the safety catch
(2) may become loose and separate itself from the release mechanism.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:

-

Pull the hood release from inside the vehicle

-

Lift hood until it comes up against the safety catch

-

Using a wire coat hanger with its end bent to 90~, insert into safety catch hole (2) and pull forward

-

Lift hood and support it with the prop (3)

-

Reinstall pull rod (1), PIN 7953.07, onto safety catch (2) using a new type metallic pin and lock ring washer with its concave side facing inward.
Push the lock ring all the way in against the pull rod
