Steering Wheel - Groaning Noise When Turning

GROANING NOISE WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL
MODELS:
ALL 405 VEHICLES
PROBLEM:
Some 405 vehicles may emit a groaning noise when turning the steering wheel, usually only after being parked for a period of time.
CAUSE:
Lack of lubrication between steering shaft and firewall bushing causes too much friction.
REPAIR:

Locate the firewall bushing in the driver's footwell area

With a small flat-bladed screwdriver or similar tool, bend the lip of the rubber bushing away from the steering shaft, and pack thoroughly with
bushing lube, P/N 9730.67

Move steering wheel clockwise and counter-clockwise numberous times to distribute the lube, and until the noise goes away.
