This bulletin supersedes Technical Service Bulletin #14-39-84 (dated 7/09/89), which should be removed from your files. The model application now
includes 1984 California vehicles, as well as 1983-1984 Federal vehicles equipped with 318 2BBL engine.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION
A condition may exist on subject model vehicles of surge and bucking just after cresting a hill when driving in the 45 to 55 mph speed range. Bucking
may also be detected on a light deceleration (floating down) in the 45 to 55 mph range.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1.
Raise vehicle on hoist, remove shift linkage and kickdown linkage, drain transmission fluid, and remove transmission pan.
2.
Lower valve body just enough to remove torque converter lock-up spring, replace with supplied Spring PN 4202672. Reuse the existing lock-up
valve, fail safe valve and spring, cover, and screws.
3.
Reinstall valve body and torque screws to 100 inch pounds.
Reinstall transmission oil pan (with new Pan Gasket PN 4295875) and shift and kickdown linkage. Lower vehicle and refill transmission using fresh
fluid.
Adjust shift and kickdown linkage as necessary.
4.
Cut six pieces of 3/16" diameter vacuum hose (serviced in bulk stock PN 4105167) into the following lengths: 1-1/2", 1-1/2", 1-1/2", 6", 11", and
13-1/2".
