Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Testing and Inspection

1. Inspect for a damaged or broken coil spring.
2. Inspect for a damaged, worn or broken shock absorber top mounting bolt isolator bushing.
3. Inspect for a damaged, worn or broken shock absorber lower mounting bolt isolator bushing/ bracket on the lower control arm.
4. Check for damage to the coil spring lower seat on the clevis of the shock absorber.
5. Check for a broken or damaged coil spring retainer.
6. Check to be sure the jounce bumper is on the shock absorber rod. Also, inspect the jounce bumper for any signs of damage or deterioration.
7. Check shock absorber for evidence of fluid running from the upper end of the fluid reservoir. (Actual leakage will be a stream of fluid running down

the side and dripping off the bottom of the shock absorber). A slight amount of seepage between the shock rod and seal is not unusual and does not
affect the performance of the shock absorber.
