Engine Oil: Service and Repair

Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Note:  For environmental protection, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of at designated disposal sites.

1. Remove the oil filler cap.
2. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.

Caution:  Refer to Fastener Caution   (See: Service Precautions/Vehicle Damage Warnings/Fastener Caution).

3. Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket and tighten to 37 Nm (27 lb ft).

4. Using a strap type wrench (2), loosen the oil filter cap 4 revolutions, align the cap ribs vertically, and drain the remaining engine oil in the oil filter

and cap.

Note:  Set a container below the oil filter cap assembly before loosening the oil filter cap.

5. Remove the oil filter cap (1) assembly.
