Eliminating Noise Symptoms - Reworking Cover Of Oddments Tray

Symptoms

Rattling noise when opening and closing the cover of the oddments tray.

Causes and remedial action

Rattling noises due to insufficient bracing of the cover hinge mounting. This can cause the gear wheel on the damper of the cover hinge to jump over
individual teeth of the toothed segment on the cover if the tolerance conditions of the components are unfavorable.

To prevent the gear wheel from jumping, the spacer on the cover hinge mounting now has an additional securing rib.

On vehicles manufactured before the specified date of introduction March 2005, the spacer on the cover hinge mounting and the damper on the cover
hinge must be replaced in the event of a complaint.

The toothed segment on the cover must also be inspected. If the teeth of the toothed segment are visibly damaged, the cover of the oddments tray must
also be replaced.

Preliminary work

1. Remove door trim panel. Refer to Removing and installing door trim panel.

Reworking cover of oddments tray

CAUTION:  The door trim panel may be damaged if stored incorrectly.

During work, place door trim panel on a clean, soft surface with the inside facing upwards.

1. Remove spacer -2- on the cover hinge mounting.

1.1. Insert a small screwdriver between the spacer and the latches on the mounting -A- and unclip the spacer -2- by levering it up out of the

latches.

1.2. Take off the spacer -2- and dispose of it.
