Subject:
Oil Filter Removal
ATTENTION: Service Manager/Service Technician
Models Affected:911 Carrera 214
Concern:
Unnecessary perforation of oil filters when removing.
General Information:
Removing the oil filter on a Carrera 2/4 can spill oil in the engine compartment. Technicians have discovered that by
venting the oil filter (making a hole in the filter housing), much of the oil in the filter will drain into the tank. This no
longer needs to be done. Since late in the 1989 model year, Carrera 4s and all Carrera 2s have been fitted with a drain
plug on the oil filter housing in the fight rear wheel well. Using this drain prevents excessive oil from running out of the
oil filter housing and into the engine compartment when the oil filter is removed.
On early models with no drain plug, loosen the upper oil line fitting on the filter housing in the fight rear wheel well and
allow to drain.
