Position steering gear into tool P285b without .12 inch (3 mm) washers, Fig. 1.
2.
Remove spring clamp on outside of bellows.
3.
Remove bellows from holder.
4.
Remove holder with 1.65 inch (42 mm) wrench and remove joint bushing with bellows holder.

Clamp steering gear in a vise and remove housing cover, Fig. 2.
6.
Remove locking ring and compensating washers.
7.
Install hex nut on drive pinion and, using two heavy screwdrivers against the housing rim and under the installed nut, pry the pinion out of housing.
8.
Remove bearing bushing.
9.
Pull grooved ball bearing from steering gear housing.
10.
Prior to assembly, coat all components with multipurpose grease.
11.
To adjust thrust piece play proceed as follows:
