Clutch Pedal Assembly: Description and Operation

A - Servo spring

As of model year 1987, the clutch of the 911 Carrera is hydraulically actuated. This change has necessitated a modification of the pedal bracket (bearing
bracket). The clutch pedal stop is no longer fitted. The pedal is at its final position when the clutch master cylinder is at the rest position (clutch
engaged). A servo spring which is integrated into the pedal bracket and performs two functions:

a) 

Reduction of the force which must be applied to the clutch pedal when the clutch is depressed, because the servo spring increases the actuating
force.

b) 

Returns the clutch pedal with pressure rod and piston of master cylinder to initial position (no pressure spring in clutch master cylinder).

For some jobs on the pedal assembly it is advisable to remove the pedal bracket. This should be decided on a case-to-case basis, depending on the scale
of repair work. Reference the image to serve as a guide in making this decision.
