When adjusting or checking the timing, the mechanical auxiliary chain tensioners must be fitted with the specified preload.

The groove machined on the thrust piece must barely be visible.
5. When making the basic adjustment (item 3), a hole on the chain sprocket lines up exactly with a hole on the chain sprocket flange.

Place locating pin in those holes that line exactly up.
6. Tighten sprocket hexagon head bolts until they are hand-tight. Use Special Tool 9191 to lock.
NOTE: Lubricate threads of hexagon head bolts with a thin coat of Optimoly HT.
NOTE: In case one of the camshafts has rotated out of the basic timing position, proceed as follows:

Take off locating pin of the camshaft adjusted to basic timing so that it cannot rotate when the following adjustment is made.

Rotate offset camshaft into position for basic setting using Special Tool 9191 (punch mark must face up).

Then take off sprocket mounting bolt and locating pin and rotate crankshaft to line it up with Z1 mark again.

7. Remove inlet rocker arms of cyl. No. 1 and cyl. No. 4.

Replace original rocker arms with rocker arms fitted with adjustment bolts.
