9. Unscrew manual transmission mounting screws (the top two screws can be reached from the passenger compartment).

NOTE:  Two persons are required for the removal of the central tube.

10. Push central tube forwards and remove it at an angle to the back.

Before doing so, remove the supports which you have applied.

Installation

1. The parts removed must be installed in reverse order of removal.

Tighten the following to:

Front axle final drive and suspension (refer to Differential/Specifications/Mechanical). See: Differential
Assembly/Specifications/Mechanical Specifications
Frame to tunnel: M6 = 10 mm
Gearshift rod to transmission/internal shift rod: M8 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
Slides to guide tube: M5 6 Nm (4.5 ft lb)
Double clamp to central tube: M8 35 to 40 Nm (26 to 29.5 ft lb)
Central tube to manual transmission: M12 85 Nm (63 ft lb)

2. Make sure that the centering pins on the transfer casing are properly positioned.
3. Place insulation in correct position on tunnel.
4. Apply sliding compound (e.g. Contifix) to central tube in area of insulation and push central tube in carefully, making sure that the insulation is

properly positioned.

5. Check adjustment of gearshift. Refer to: Shift Lever, M/T/Adjustments See: Manual Transmission/Transaxle/Shift Linkage/Adjustments
