Action Required:

In the event of a complaint relating to vehicles manufactured before the date of introduction, check the data version of the DME control unit.

Action required for vehicles manufactured after the date of introduction: see --> Procedure" section --> 2.

To determine the DME data version:

Using the PIWIS Tester 9718, select --> DME control unit --> Identification to find out the part number of the DME control unit.

Boxster
If the part number is 987.618.623.30 or lower, see --> "Procedure" section--> 1
If the part number is 987.618.623.31 or higher, see --> "Procedure" section --> 2

Cayman
If the part number is 987.618.621.30 or lower, see --> "Procedure" section --> 1
If the part number is 987.618.621.31 or higher, see --> Procedure" section--> 2 

Information

Concerns: Engine replacement.
If the engine was replaced in the vehicle, the model year of the new engine is a decisive factor in selecting the DME data record to be programmed. If in
doubt, read off the model year from the engine number. See --> Workshop Manual 1X00IN Engine numbers and --> 'Driver's Manual Vehicle
Identification, Technical Data'.

Work Procedure:

1. Part number is 987.618.623.30 or 987.618.621.30 or lower:

The data version is not up-to-date.

Use the PIWIS Tester and test software version 27.000 (or higher) to re-program the DME control unit.

See 247019 Removing and installing DME control unit - section on "Programming".

Once you have worked through any fault codes that are still present, erase the fault memory.

End of remedial action.

2. Part number is 987.618.623.31 or 987.618.621.31 or higher:

The data version is up-to-date. Do not replace the MAF sensor yet.

Information

Since the problem occurred on a vehicle after the specified date of introduction and/or after programming the DME control unit: --> Correct the fault
using the PIWIS Tester in accordance with Guided Fault Finding".
