Description and operationCharging and starting · page 2 of 2

Starting (K, T and L series cars) When the ignition switch is turned to position ’III’, battery power is supplied, via fuse 18 in the passenger compartment fuse box and the W/R wire, to the starter relay. The relay is connected to the alarm ECU by a B/G wire and provides an earth for the relay. If starter motor operation has not been disabled by the alarm circuits, the starter relay will be energised.

Fusible link 5 of the engine compartment fuse box is connected to the MEMS Relay Module by a P wire. Current flows across the energised starter relay and onto the starter motor via a N/R wire. This feed energises the starter motor solenoid and allows battery feed on R wire to drive the starter motor.

Starting (D series cars) When the ignition is turned to position ’III’, current flows across the starter relay and onto the automatic transmission selector on a B/R wire. The automatic transmission selector is connected to the alarm ECU by a B/G wire.

If starter motor operation has not been disabled by the alarm circuits, the starter relay will be energised. The ignition switch is connected to the starter relay by a B/W wire. Current flows across the energised relay and onto the starter motor via a U/W and B/W wire. This energises the starter solenoid and allows battery feed on a B wire to drive the starter motor.
