Description and operationCruise control · page 2 of 2

As vehicle speed changes due to changes of road gradients, so the cruise control unit operates the cruise pump, continually moving the cruise control actuator to maintain the speed set.

Should the driver wish to increase the speed of the vehicle, the ’SET’ switch should be pressed and held. The vehicle will accelerate until the switch is released. As the ’SET’ switch is released, the cruise control unit will store the new cruise speed in its memory.

The ’RES’ switch will cancel cruise operation. However if the ’RES’ switch is pressed again this will resume cruise operation.

If the ’RES’ switch is pressed to resume cruising at a previously set speed, the supply from fuse M of the engine compartment fuse box is connected to the cruise relay where the current is passed through an amplification buffer to be fed to the cruise control unit on a B/Y wire. This triggers the cruise control unit and cruise pump to operate the control solenoid and dump solenoid in the pump accordingly to achieve the return of the vehicle to the preset memorised speed.

With the cruise control on, it is possible to press the accelerator pedal and accelerate through the memorised set speed. On the release of the accelerator pedal the cruise control unit will automatically return to its memorised speed, providing vehicle is still within its operating limits.

NOTE: The cruise system will not operate at speeds below 27 mph (43 km/h).

Cruising will be cancelled and the memorised speed erased when the cruise control is switched off, or when the ignition is turned off.

Cruising will be suspended but the memorised speed retained if either the brake pedal, clutch pedal or ’RES’ switch is depressed, which makes the cruise control system go open circuit.
