Starting

When the key is used to turn the starter switch from position II to position III, battery power is applied on the B/W wire to one side of the starter relay coil which is mounted in the passenger compartment fuse box. An earth to the other side of the relay coil is supplied from the immobilisation control unit on the B/G wire.

Providing starter motor operation has not been disabled by the immobilisation control unit, the starter relay will be energised. This will switch battery voltage from the starter switch on the B/W wire via the closed contacts of the starter relay to the starter motor on the N/R wire. Since one side of the starter motor and coil is already earthed, this will cause the starter motor solenoid to be energised, switching battery voltage on the R wire directly on to the starter motor terminal.

Engine Immobilisation

The engine is immobilised: when the car is locked using the handset; when the car is locked using the key; immediately the starter switch is turned off.

Immobilisation is removed when the LH handset button is pressed.

The starter key incorporates a transponder which sends a coded signal via the engine immobilisation coil to the immobilisation control unit on the W/G and S wires.

The immobilisation control unit receives battery voltage from fuse 31 in the engine compartment fuse box on the Y/U - W/Y wire and from fuse 4 in the passenger compartment fuse box on the B/Y wire. Earth is via the B wire. An earth is also supplied to the starter relay in the passenger compartment relay on the B/G wire. Output to the MEMS control unit is on the B/R wire and to the immobiliser warning lamp on the U/G wire.
