Installation Procedure

Caution:  Refer to Fastener Caution   (See: Service Precautions/Vehicle Damage Warnings/Fastener Caution).

1. Install the tie rod inner linkage to the steering gear.

Tighten to 90 Nm (67 lb ft).

Clean the rack thread and coat with locking compound.

Install the inner tie rod to the rack.
Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat (arrow).

2. Install the boot or boots. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement   (See: Tie Rod/Tie Rod Boot/Service and Repair).
3. Install the corresponding outer tie rod end. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement   (See: Tie Rod/Service and Repair/Steering

Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement).

4. Check the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection   (See: Service and Repair/Removal and Replacement).
