Service Information on Automatic and Manual Transaxle Design Changes to the Differential Assembly Pinion Gear Shaft
MODELS AFFECTED:
1996 Saturns built after and including VIN TZ377906 and 1997 Saturns
PURPOSE:
On vehicles built after and including VIN TZ377906, a design change was made to the automatic and manual transaxle differentials that loosens the fit of
the differential pinion gear shaft lock pin to the front differential pinion gear shaft.
This change involves increasing the diameter of the hole in the front differential pinion gear shaft which the differential pinion gear shaft lock pin slides
through. As a result of this change, there may be a loose fit condition that exists between the differential pinion gear shaft lock pin and the front
differential pinion gear shaft. This condition is normal and does not affect the performance or reliability of the transaxle.
