Idle Speed: Testing and Inspection

INSPECT ENGINE IDLING SPEED

NOTICE:  
-

Turn all the electrical systems and the A/C OFF.

-

Inspect the engine idling speed with the cooling fan OFF.

-

When checking the idling speed, shift the transmission to the neutral position.

a. Warm up and stop the engine.

b. When using the handheld tester or OBD II scan tool:

1. Connect the handheld tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC-3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / PRIMARY / ENGINE SPD. 

HINT:  Refer to the handheld tester operator's manual for further information regarding the selection of Data List.

4. Inspect the engine idling speed.

Idle speed:

610 to 710 rpm for automatic transaxle
650 to 750 rpm for manual transaxle

5. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
6. Disconnect the handheld tester or OBD II scan tool from the DLC-3.

c. When not using the handheld tester or OBD II scan tool:

1. Install SST to terminal 9 (TAC) of DLC-3, then connect a tachometer.

NOTICE:  Make sure of the terminal numbers before connecting them. Connecting the wrong terminals can damage the engine.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Inspect the engine idling speed.

Idle speed:

610 to 710 rpm for automatic transaxle
650 to 750 rpm for manual transaxle

4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
5. Disconnect a tachometer.
6. Remove SST from terminal 9 (TAC).
