Calculation of the gear ratio “i”
Calculation of the gear ratio “i”
The gear ratio between two gears, is obtained by dividing the number of teeth on the driven gear (Z2), by the number of teeth on the driving gear (Z1).
Example:

0A8 6-speed manual gearbox6a gearFinal group
Driving gearZG1 = 45ZA1 = 27
Driven gearZG2 = 34ZA2 = 65

i = Z2 : Z1Z1 = Number of teeth of driver pinion, Z2 = Number of teeth of driver pinion
iG = Gear ratio= ZG2 : ZG1 = 34 : 45
= 0,756
iA = axle ratio = ZA2 : ZA1 = 65 : 27
= 2,407
iges = Total gear ratio= iG x iA = 0,756 x 2,407
= 1,819
