Removing and installing selector mechanism > < Gear selection mechanism
Removal:
Removal:
–  Remove knob with gear lever cover → Chapter.
–  Remove central console → Bodywork, interior fitting work; Rep. gr.68 .
   
–  Unscrew nuts -arrows-.
–  Disconnect the battery earth strap.
  Note
Observe the safety measures to be adopted when disconnecting the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27
–  Remove engine cover → Booklet2.
–  Remove the air filter body, breather hose and air duct hoses → Rep. gr.24 and → Rep. gr.23 .
–  Remove the battery → Electrical system; Rep. gr.27 .

–  Remove battery tray -arrows- and remove from vehicle.

–  Remove the safety washer -3- that secures the connector cable to selector rod -1-.
–  Remove the connector cable from the pivot.
  Note
Disregard: Item -2 & 4-.
–  Remove the return lever → Chapter

–  Remove the gearbox -arrows- the support for control cables; if necessary, detach the hose -A- from the support -B-.
–  Remove the rear part of the exhaust system and release the front from the subframe → Rep. gr.26

–  Remove front crossbar from vehicle underbody -arrows-.

–  Release clips -arrows- and remove heat shield together with gear selector mechanism.
