Installing rear final drive > < Removing and installing rear final drive

Removing rear final drive
Removing rear final drive
–  Move selector lever to position “P” position.
–  Release handbrake.
–  Raise vehicle.
–  Unbolt left and right drive shafts and tie them up.
–  Unscrew bolts for propshaft on viscous coupling, do not remove.
–  Unclip cables and vacuum lines.
–  Pull off plug from connection of freewheel lock control element.
–  Disconnect vacuum line for freewheel lock control element.
–  Position engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A- with plate -V.A.G 1359/2- under final drive and support final drive.
   
–  Remove securing bolt for final drive mounting bracket from crossmember -arrows-.
–  Lower final drive slightly.

–  Remove upper bolts -arrows-.
–  Unscrew propshaft bolts from viscous coupling.
–  Press final drive off propshaft.
–  Secure propshaft tube to prevent it falling down.
–  Lower final drive.
