Dismantling gearbox
Dismantling gearbox
First the two halves of the housing must be separated.
   
–  Remove bolts (Qty. 21).
–  Separate tight-fitting torque converter housing from gearbox housing using a plastic mallet.
–  Remove torque converter housing straight upwards.
–  Remove differential.
–  Unbolt and remove ATF pump and ATF strainer.
–  Remove turbine shaft.

–  Now remove planetary gear set III and lay it safely to side.
–  Remove clutch “K4”.
–  Remove brake band for brake “B3”.
–  Turn gearbox.
Now gearbox cover and some of the selector elements must be removed.
–  Loosen all bolts.

–  Remove bolts except bolts -1- and -2-.
–  Separate tight-fitting housing cover from gearbox housing using a plastic mallet.
–  Remove housing cover.

–  Carefully lever out ATF lines -2- and -3- using a plastic wedge.
Do not cant lines; this will render them unusable.
–  Then remove ATF line -1- with line clips -A-.

–  Remove “G182”-1-.
–  Remove spring -2-.

–  Remove clutch “K2/K3”-A-.
Seal -B- must be renewed later.
–  Remove large retaining ring for brake “B2”.
Now remove all parts which can be reached “by hand”. Lay parts in an orderly manner on a clean surface.
–  Planetary gear set I and plates of brake “B2”
–  Then planetary gear set II and clutch “K1”
Carefully guide spindle of assembly tool -3253/3- through spur gear because sleeve on lower end must not be damaged.

–  Press down piston to stop using assembly tool -T10064/1-, -T10064/6A- and spindle from assembly tool -3253/3-.

–  Remove retaining ring.
No tool is shown here so that the location of the retaining ring can be seen.
–  Remove assembly tool.
Now remove brake “B1”.

–  Remove retaining ring and freewheel.
The gearbox will not be further dismantled.
Each selector element and other parts must be cleaned. The defective selector element need not be cleaned, as it will be included in the repair component.
