Checking and adjusting selector lever cable > < Repairing selector mechanism

Checking
–  First check whether a coded radio is fitted. In this case, obtain anti-theft code.
–  Move selector lever to “P” position.
–  With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery earth strap.
   
–  Remove trim -1- for air duct -arrows-.
–  Remove trim -2- for battery.
–  Pull connector off coolant expansion tank.
–  Unbolt coolant expansion tank and place to side. Do not open cooling system.
–  Remove battery and battery tray → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
  Note!
Comply with the dismantling and assembling procedure when removing the selector lever cable from the gearbox.

–  First remove the selector cable support bracket from gearbox -arrow A-.
–  Then pull selector lever cable -1- upwards off selector shaft lever -2--arrow B-.
–  Put down selector lever cable so its end can move freely.
t  Do not bend or kink selector lever cable.
–  Move selector lever from “P” to “2”.
–  Check front protective sleeve on selector lever cable for damage and renew cable if necessary.
–  Move selector lever to “P” position.
l  Selector mechanism and selector lever cable must move freely, if necessary renew selector lever cable → Chapter or service selector mechanism.
  Note!
Comply with the dismantling and assembling procedure when fitting the selector lever cable onto the gearbox.
  N37-0855
–  First press selector lever cable -1- onto selector shaft lever -2- using a pair of pliers -arrow A-.
–  Now fit selector cable support bracket onto gearbox.
  N37-0856
–  Pin -1- of selector cable support bracket must engage in hole -2- of gearbox.
–  Install battery and battery holder → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.27.
–  Bolt on coolant expansion tank.
–  Push connector onto coolant expansion tank.

–  Install trim -2- for battery.
–  Install trim -1- for air duct -arrows-.
–  Reconnect earth strap to battery.
–  Code radio → Radio, telephone, navigation; Rep. Gr.91.
–  Initialise electric windows and set clock → Booklet10.1.
