Removal is also possible with gearbox installed in vehicle → Chapter.

Removal:
l  With selector shaft installed
–  Carefully lever out oil seal, making sure shaft is not damaged.
  A34-0624
l  With selector shaft removed
–  Carefully lever out oil seal using a screwdriver or extractor tool -VW 681-.
  A34-0650
Installation
–  To avoid damaging oil seal -C-, oil seal and selector shaft must only be fitted using assembly sleeve -01E 311 120--A-.
–  Fill half the space between the sealing lips and the dust cover with sealing grease. Allocation: →  Spare parts catalogue.
–  Lightly oil outer circumference of oil seal.

–  Drive oil seal -arrow- into housing as far as it will go.
