Installing > < Removing and installing over-centre spring

Removing
   
–  Clamp off supply hose -A- to brake fluid reservoir with hose clamp -3094-.

–  Connect bleeder hose -A- from receptacle bottle of brake filling and bleeding device -V.A.G 1869- or -VAS 5234- and open bleeder valve -arrow- of slave cylinder.
–  Remove covers on driver side → General body repairs, interior; Rep. Gr.68.
–  Unhook relay plate from both retainers, unscrew upper fastener and tie up relay plate → Electrical system; Rep. Gr.97.
–  Remove clutch pedal switch -F36- → Item.

–  Screw bolt M10 -arrow- into hole and lock.
   Dimension -a- = 25 mm
  Note!
The bolt -arrow- prevents the fully-stretched over-centre spring from springing out with master cylinder removed.

Release master cylinder operating rod from clutch pedal as follows:
–  Insert pliers -T10005- into opening for operating rod mounting.
–  Press sides of retainer inwards -arrows- using pliers -T10005-.
–  Pull clutch pedal gently into passenger compartment.
–  Remove operating rod with retainer from pedal and push into engine compartment to stop.

–  Loosen upper and lower securing bolts -arrows- of master cylinder, but do not remove.
–  Pull master cylinder about 5 mm to left off mounting bracket.
–  Pull clutch pedal stop to left off mounting bracket.
–  Pull back clutch pedal by hand.

–  Now carefully push clutch pedal to bulkhead, guiding master cylinder retainer -arrow 1- past clutch pedal on left.
Clutch pedal lies against pin -arrow 2- (lower mounting of over-centre spring) of mounting bracket.
–  Remove over-centre spring from ball guide on clutch pedal -arrow 3-.
