Needle bearing (polygonal) and right flanged shaft seal: removing –  Raise the vehicle. –  Remove the front right wheel → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44. –  Remove centre sound insulation → Bodywork, exterior installation work; Rep. gr.50. –  Remove the right sound proofing → Rep. gr.66.

–  Remove the bolts from the drive shaft heat shield -arrows-, if they are present, and remove it. –  Remove the right half axle → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.40. –  Place container under the gearbox.

–  Unscrew the bolt securing the right flanged shaft -arrow 1- with the "1/4" threading die mount" -T20203A-; to do this, screw two bolts into the flange and counterhold the flange shaft with an assembly lever.

–  Bolt the extractor -T10037- in the right flanged shaft.   Note It is advisable to remove the right flanged shaft with it to avoid damaging the polygonal bearings of the same. –  Place the tool -VW 434- between the gearbox support and the knurled nut -T10037/1-. –  Align the extractor -T10037- with the lower support -A- so that it lies parallel to the flange. –  Remove the right flanged shaft.

Then fit the tool -T10047- as follows: –  Place the two parts of the tool so that the marks -B- are facing each other. –  The steps -arrows- must be below the bearing. –  Then screw, as far as possible, the two parts.

–  Release the safety washer -A- of the needle bearings by levering.

–  When pressing, turn the axle -arrow- to avoid damaging the sliding surface of the bearing which is on the axle. –  Remove the seal -A- from the groove -arrow-.
