Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Wrench -T20203-, see equivalent → Anchor

t  Torque wrench kit -SAT 8010-, see equivalent → Anchor
–  Remove air filter housing → Rep. Gr.24.
–  Raise the vehicle.
–  Remove centre noise insulation → Bodywork, exterior fitting work; Rep. Gr.50.
–  Remove right-hand articulated shaft: → Running gear, shafts, steering; Rep. Gr.40

–  Unbolt the exhaust system bracket -arrows-.

–  Remove front crosspiece from vehicle underbody -arrows-.

–  Separate the exhaust system at the bushing-arrows-.
  Note
The connecting elements of the front exhaust pipes must not be bent more than 10, otherwise they could be damaged.

–  Use chalk to mark the position of the cardan shaft and flexible disk relative to the flange of the pair of bevelled gears.
–  Unscrew the cardan shaft with flexible disk from the bevelled gear flange -arrows-.

–  Unscrew bolts -1, 2 and 3- and remove pendulum arm support.

When extracting the fastening bolts for the pendular support, the engine/gearbox assembly will oscillate a little forwards (towards the front). Ensure that the seal -arrow- of the cardan shaft flange is not damaged when removing or fitting.
–  Using the counterhold -T10038- move the engine assembly forwards slightly (towards the vehicle front), then detach the cardan shaft from the pair of bevelled gears.
–  Hold the cardan shaft up, fastening it with wire.

–  Unscrew the heat shield for the right drive shaft from its attachment to the bevelled gears -arrows-

–  Unscrew the bolts holding the gearbox to the engine and the pair of bevelled gears -arrows 1 and 2-.
–  Remove the gearbox support

–  Remove the bolt for the right flanged shaft using the wrench -T20203--arrow1-.
  Note
The right flanged shaft must remain in the bevelled gears.

–  Unscrew the lower bolts -arrows- holding the bevelled gears to the gearbox.
–  Unscrew the upper bolts holding the bevelled gears to the gearbox.

Some vehicles are equipped with a heat shield -arrow A- on the upper side of the bevelled gears.
Bolt -arrow B- is reached from underneath the heat shield.
Bolt -arrow C- is reached over the heat shield.
–  Disengage the bevelled gears from the gearbox carefully and support it so that it does not fall.
–  Remove the pair of bevelled gears
–  If the bevelled gears are to be replaced, check whether the heat shield must be removed -A-.
