Observe general notes on dual clutch gearbox 0AM .
Gearbox:
The engine torque is transferred to the dual clutch via the flywheel. The flywheel and the dual clutch are connected by splines. The two combined components perform the function of a dual-mass flywheel.
The two multi-plate "dry" clutches are regulated hydraulically and actuated alternately so that the gearbox operates in similar fashion to an automatic gearbox, i.e. the gears are engaged automatically (or manually via the Tiptronic function). There is no clutch pedal.
Both clutches are disengaged when the ignition is switched off. The 1st gear on the gear train half 1 and the reverse gear on gear train half 2 are engaged.

The gearbox has a opening on the housing.
–  Make sure no small objects enter the gearbox through this opening when performing repairs on the gearbox. Cover the opening if necessary.

Always make sure that no dirt can enter an »open« gearbox.
t  If gearbox covers have been unbolted or gearbox has no fluid, do not run engine. Do not tow vehicle.
t  First thoroughly clean connecting points and surrounding areas and then loosen bolts.
t  When installing, check for proper seating of dowel sleeves between engine and gearbox.
t  Place removed parts on a clean surface and cover them to prevent them from getting dirty. Use foil or paper. Use only lint-free cloths.
t  Only install clean components: remove the original spare parts from their packing only immediately before installing them.
t  If repair work cannot be performed immediately, carefully cover opened components.

Depending on the market, the engaging lever is covered on certain vehicles.
The cover prevents dirt getting in.
Tightening torque: 8 Nm
Gear selection mechanism
The selector lever position is no longer transmitted mechanically via the selector lever cable and multi-function switch (driving range sensor) as on the automatic gearbox. The selector lever positions and gear changes are transmitted to the gearbox control unit via CAN bus from a separate control unit in the shift unit. That is, the gears are changed without using a lever cable. Only when the selector lever is in „P“ does the parking block engage mechanically using the selector lever cable.
Gearbox oil
  N34-11590
The 7-speed dual clutch gearbox has two separate fluid fillings. One section is filled with gear oil -arrow A-, the other with hydraulic fluid -arrow B-.
Only the types of gear oil available as a spare part may be used for the dual clutch gearbox 0AM. Other oils lead to malfunctions or failure of the gearbox; Original part number → Electronic parts catalogue.
The gear oil level cannot be checked. The correct gear oil level can only be achieved by replacing the gear oil, e.g. if the gearbox is leaking → Chapter.
Modifications in the shift points, up and down
When shifting up or down, the gearshifts are automatically selected using the possible range of gear shifts according to the position of the accelerator pedal and the speed of travel.
l  The possible range of a gear change will be adapted for maximum engine power during extreme ascents.
l  The possible range of a gear change will be adapted for maximum engine braking power during extreme descents
l  The engine braking effect may be used by directly selecting a specific gear using the Tiptronic, for example, when driving with a trailer on downhill slopes.
